Public Relations Professional Salary in India (2026)

A public relations professional in India typically earns ₹3–6 lakh a year at entry level, ₹7–18 lakh at mid level, and ₹20–40 lakh or more as a director or head of communications. Large agencies and corporate communications teams at big companies pay at the upper end, and pay grows with your media network, client portfolio and ability to handle crises.

  • Entry level (PR executive, account executive): ₹3–6 LPA
  • Mid level (account manager, communications manager): ₹7–18 LPA
  • Senior / director / head of communications: ₹20–40+ LPA
  • Agency, in-house and government roles each have different pay scales and growth tracks

Pay depends on the clients you manage and the results you deliver. Specialisations such as crisis communication, financial communication, public affairs and digital PR tend to pay better than general media relations.

What Does a Public Relations Professional Actually Do?

Public relations professionals manage how organisations communicate with the media, customers, employees, investors and the public. They write press releases and statements, pitch stories to journalists, organise events and launches, manage social media and reputation, prepare spokespeople and handle crisis communication when something goes wrong. Clear writing, quick judgement and strong relationships are central.

PR professionals work in agencies such as Edelman, Weber Shandwick and Adfactors PR, in corporate communications departments, in government press offices, in political and public-affairs consulting, and in non-profits. Digital media has blurred lines between PR, content and marketing, so many roles now combine media relations with social media and content strategy.
