Account Deletion & Data Retention

Account Deletion and Data Retention Policy

Effective date: 07 April 2026

This page explains what happens when you delete your Param AI™ account, how long we keep your data, and how to exercise your rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR Article 17), India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act 2023 (DPDP Act Section 12), and Google Play's Data Safety requirements.

1. How to delete your account

You can delete your Param AI™ account at any time, directly from the app:

1. Log in to your Param AI™ account.

2. Open Profile → Privacy Settings.

3. Scroll to the Danger Zone section and click Delete Account.

4. Complete the in-app confirmation flow: review the warning, optionally tell us why you're leaving, type DELETE MY ACCOUNT to confirm, and re-enter your password.

If for any reason you cannot access the app, you may also request deletion by emailing support@paramai.in from the email address associated with your account.

2. What happens immediately

The moment you confirm deletion:

  • Your account is marked as deactivated in our database.
  • All your active login sessions are immediately invalidated — you are logged out from every device.
  • You will receive a confirmation email acknowledging the request and showing the exact date on which your data will be permanently erased.
  • Your profile and data are no longer visible to any other user or feature of the app.
  • 3. The 30-day recovery window

We hold your account in a recoverable "soft-deleted" state for 30 days before permanent erasure. During this window:

  • You can restore your account instantly by logging in with your existing email and password. All data — profile, assessments, results, reports, preferences — will be exactly as you left it.
  • We will send you a gentle reminder email 3 days before permanent deletion, just in case you've forgotten or changed your mind.
  • No one else, including our staff, can log in to the account during this period. Only you, or an explicit request to our support team referencing your registered email, can trigger restoration.
  • This grace period exists because account deletion is a serious action, and real humans sometimes click the wrong button or change their mind. It also aligns with Google Play's Data Safety best practices.

    4. Permanent erasure (after 30 days)

Once the 30-day window has passed, an automated background worker permanently deletes:

  • Your profile and personal details (name, email, contact numbers, school information, parent contact details, APAR ID, profile photo).
  • All your assessment responses, dimension scores, and career reports.
  • Your preferences, session data, and any cached state.
  • Any personally-identifying audit trails of your activity.
  • You will receive a final confirmation email immediately before this erasure is executed.

    5. What we retain (and why)

In a small number of cases we are legally required to keep specific records even after account deletion. We will always retain the minimum necessary, and we will anonymize wherever the law permits.

GST tax invoices (retained for 6 years) — If you ever purchased a paid plan, we are required by the Central Goods and Services Tax Act, 2017 (Section 36) to retain your tax invoice for 6 financial years from the end of the relevant year. We do this in accordance with Indian tax law. Your name on the invoice is preserved where the law requires; the invoice is no longer linked to a user profile that can be logged into.

A minimal deletion log entry — We keep a single immutable record showing that an account was deleted. This record contains:

  • A one-way SHA-256 hash of your email address (not the email itself).
  • The date you initiated deletion.
  • The date of permanent erasure.
  • This log does not contain your plaintext email or any other identifying information. Its sole purpose is to let our support team confirm "yes, this email address was previously deleted on [date]" if you (or someone claiming to be you) contacts us after erasure. This protects you from impersonation and helps us investigate abuse complaints.

Security audit logs — Where Indian IT law or regulator guidance requires retention of specific security event logs (e.g. authentication attempts, admin actions), these are held for the legally-mandated period and then deleted. They are not used for any other purpose.

    Nothing else is retained.

    6. Signing up again after deletion

  • During the 30-day window: The same email cannot be used to create a new account because your original account is still recoverable. Simply log in with your existing credentials to restore it.
  • After the 30-day window: You are free to sign up again with the same email address. It will be a completely fresh account. None of your previous data — assessments, reports, preferences — will carry over.
  • 7. Data export (GDPR Article 20)

Before you delete your account, we strongly encourage you to export your personal data. You can download a full JSON export of everything associated with your account from Profile → Privacy Settings → Export my data. There is no limit on how often you can do this, and it is completely free.

    8. Third-party processors

Where we use third-party service providers (payment gateways, email delivery, infrastructure hosting), their data handling is governed by our Data Processing Agreements with them, which require them to honour deletion requests within 30 days of receiving them from us. If you would like the list of our current sub-processors, please email support@paramai.in.

    9. Changes to this policy

We may update this Account Deletion Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you via email (if you still have an account) and by publishing the revised policy at this URL with an updated effective date.
