What Does a Sociologist Do?

Sociologists study how societies are organised, how social institutions (family, education, religion, economy) function, and how social change occurs. They conduct research using surveys, interviews, ethnography, and statistical analysis. They work in universities, think tanks, policy research organisations, international development agencies, and government planning departments.

Salary Range in India

  • Entry level (research): 3-6 LPA
  • Academic (assistant professor): 6-12 LPA
  • Policy research/international: 12-25+ LPA
