What Does a Civil Engineer Do?

Civil engineers design, construct, and maintain infrastructure projects — highways, bridges, airports, dams, water supply systems, and buildings. They work with government agencies, construction firms, and consulting companies. Sub-disciplines include structural engineering, geotechnical engineering, transportation, water resources, and environmental engineering.

  • Structural analysis and design
  • AutoCAD, STAAD Pro, ETABS
  • Surveying and geotechnical testing
  • Project management and cost estimation
  • Knowledge of building codes and regulations

Salary Range in India

  • Entry level: 3-7 LPA
  • Mid level: 7-15 LPA
  • Senior/Management: 15-30+ LPA
  • Government sector (IES, state PWD): 8-18 LPA + benefits
