HR Manager Salary in India (2026)

An HR manager in India typically earns ₹3.5–7 lakh a year at entry level, ₹8–18 lakh at mid level, and ₹25–60 lakh or more at the most senior levels such as head of HR or CHRO. Pay depends on company size and industry, and on whether you hold a business-facing or purely administrative HR role.

  • Entry level (HR executive, recruiter, HR associate): ₹3.5–7 LPA
  • Mid level (HR business partner, talent acquisition lead, compensation and benefits manager): ₹8–18 LPA
  • Senior HR leader, head of HR or CHRO: ₹25–60+ LPA
  • Specialist tracks such as HR analytics and compensation design tend to pay above generalist roles at the same level

Premium MBA programmes and large employers pay at the top of each band, while smaller firms and staffing agencies pay less. Moving from administrative work to a business-partnering role is the most reliable way to raise pay.

What Does a HR Manager Actually Do?

HR managers connect a company's people strategy with its business goals. Day to day this includes planning headcount, hiring and onboarding, running performance reviews, designing pay and benefits, handling employee relations and compliance, and building learning programmes. The role mixes empathy with commercial judgement: you must be trusted by employees and credible with senior leadership.

Large organisations split HR into specialisations — talent acquisition, learning and development, compensation and benefits, HR analytics, employee relations and HR business partnering. Smaller companies expect HR generalists to cover several of these at once. HR professionals work in every sector, from IT services and manufacturing to banking, healthcare, consulting and start-ups.
